International Friendship Day 2023: History, Date, and Meaning.

International Friendship Day 2023 was recognized by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2011.

International Friendship Day is observed annually on July 30 to recognize the importance of friendship in our lives. The holiday celebrates how our friends enrich our lives. This yearly event honors the important friendships in our life. After all, without our closest friends, the world would become a far more challenging place.

Even though the day was declared by the UN, not all nations observe it on July 30. On the first Sunday in August, a few countries, including India, Bangladesh, the UAE, Malaysia, and the US, celebrate Friendship Day. Thus, for them, Friendship Day will fall on August 6 this year.

History :

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) first recognized International Friendship Day in 2011. The idea behind the declaration of the day was that friendship between individuals, groups of people, and different cultures might serve as motivation for bridging gaps between social groups.

The resolution places a strong emphasis on encouraging children to become the community's future leaders in activities that, by including many cultures, advance global knowledge and respect for diversity.

Significance :

According to the United Nations, there are still problems that pose a threat to global security, development, social harmony, and peace among the people, including poverty and violations of human rights. International Friendship Day seeks to forge solid bonds of trust so that, together, we can eliminate all the elements that pose a threat to a peaceful future.

This endeavor is noteworthy since it follows the UNESCO proposal. According to the idea, a culture of peace is a combination of beliefs, actions, and attitudes that forbid violence and deal with the causes of conflicts.
